I Spy Something...Red

This post is going to be pretty picture heavy...but you've been warned! Sorry if it takes forever to load. But let me tell you...I just love pomegranates too much to edit this. MMM delicious!!

At work we had a parent who brought us some pomegranates fresh from their backyard tree! There is just nothing better than fresh fruit, especially as the seasons are changing; it makes everything feel and taste crisp. So I, of course, ate one at work (I shared!) and then brought one home to eat on my day off.

We took a little field trip outside before I ate him. (Woops)

How cute is he? He reminds me of "Where the Wild Things Are" with his crown.

Have I mentioned how much I love Fall?

These look like hillbilly teeth and I probably laughed to myself for about 10 minutes over them. (And yes, I tried them on in the mirror. Who wouldn't, really?)

I ate about half the seeds, then mashed the rest up, put them in the freezer, and about an hour later took them out and mixed them up with some soy ice cream. Can I use the word delicious again without sounding redundant?

Also on my day off...
Remember my elephant tease?
This is the dress!! I'm so happy it's finally chilly enough to wear long sleeves! At least in the morning.

What? Blurry? No. That's totally your eyes.

I bought these shoes for my Dennis outfit and I LOVE them with dresses!! (Have you noticed how ecstatic I am today with all the "!!!"? That's what you get for working with kids all the time). I'm really enjoying mixing up mens/womens wear these days.
How do you feel about mixing menswear and womenswear?
What are your favorite ways of mixing them together?

So what's up next for Pastiche? More Dennis pictures, pictures of the Monterey Bay Aquarium (!!), bundles of cat pictures,  and updates on the Wind and the Willows collection. This is really becoming a problem. Or is it?
You can never have too many books, right?

Dressing Weather-appropriate is for Chumps

So . . .
It's been freezing lately. Which for us Californians means in the 60 degree range. But it's April, darn it! So I'm going to wear skirts and dresses and rompers even if I am running around like a mad person the whole time trying to keep my blood circulating!

Yesterday

When I bought these shoes, I had the following conversation via text with Sweets (my boyfriend):

Me: You're going to break up with me when you see the shoes I just got.
Sweets: Are they heels?
Me: No. They're closer to...loafers...if anything...
Sweets: Why won't I like them?
Me: Michael Jackson. That's all I'll say.
Sweets: Sparkle shoes?
Me: ...maybe...
Sweets: Girls wear some weird crap.

Well-said, Sweets. Well-said.

Today
One of the best parts about the early 90's prints coming back in style is that I still have some leftovers from the first go-round that I can re-use.

This gingham bow is from elementary school when my mom made Josie and I matching gingham outfits for a church fashion show (I know that seems like an oxymoron, but...)

This purple sweater, which I just barely saved from being donated today is from Jr. High (when I would wear it with matching purple pants and lavender clogs. We don't need to talk about that. Ever.)

I'm a pretty big chicken when it comes to mixing prints. But since I've been re-watching old Project Runway episodes, I've been encouraged by Mondo to be a bit braver.

This is only the beginning. We'll start small and eventually work our way up to more eye-assaulting combinations of prints.

These Boots Are Made for Walking

Bought: Boots
Price: $13
Place: Plato's Closet, Maple Shade, NJ

So I tried to find a picture of Disney's Pocahontas wearing boots that could illustrate why these boots remind me of Pocahontas. But I forgot about the fact that she was barefoot most of the time. I did find this little gem, however:
...I guess being a secret mermaid prohibits her from wearing boots. But I feel like if she could, these are what she would choose to wear.

Also from the same shop for the same price (ish):

Rainboots!! I'm so excited for it to rain. Look at the adorable little rain birds mixed in with the swirly vines.

If you know me at all, you know how much I love anything even slightly resembling toile.

Another successful find.
Although, I would recommend not buying 4 new pairs of shoes--especially boots-- when you're flying home the next day and your bag is already bulging at the seams so you have to carry them all on the plane with you.
Unless of course you want a good work out.

Bonus:

I don't really think Nancy Sinatra knows where she is during the first half of this video, making it all the more endearing. Beware of the inappropriate 1960's floor slithering.
