I Spy Something...Red

This post is going to be pretty picture heavy...but you've been warned! Sorry if it takes forever to load. But let me tell you...I just love pomegranates too much to edit this. MMM delicious!!

At work we had a parent who brought us some pomegranates fresh from their backyard tree! There is just nothing better than fresh fruit, especially as the seasons are changing; it makes everything feel and taste crisp. So I, of course, ate one at work (I shared!) and then brought one home to eat on my day off.

We took a little field trip outside before I ate him. (Woops)

How cute is he? He reminds me of "Where the Wild Things Are" with his crown.

Have I mentioned how much I love Fall?

These look like hillbilly teeth and I probably laughed to myself for about 10 minutes over them. (And yes, I tried them on in the mirror. Who wouldn't, really?)

I ate about half the seeds, then mashed the rest up, put them in the freezer, and about an hour later took them out and mixed them up with some soy ice cream. Can I use the word delicious again without sounding redundant?

Also on my day off...
Remember my elephant tease?
This is the dress!! I'm so happy it's finally chilly enough to wear long sleeves! At least in the morning.

What? Blurry? No. That's totally your eyes.

I bought these shoes for my Dennis outfit and I LOVE them with dresses!! (Have you noticed how ecstatic I am today with all the "!!!"? That's what you get for working with kids all the time). I'm really enjoying mixing up mens/womens wear these days.
How do you feel about mixing menswear and womenswear?
What are your favorite ways of mixing them together?

So what's up next for Pastiche? More Dennis pictures, pictures of the Monterey Bay Aquarium (!!), bundles of cat pictures,  and updates on the Wind and the Willows collection. This is really becoming a problem. Or is it?
You can never have too many books, right?

First ever Etsy purchase!

I've finally done it! Made my first ever Etsy purchase.

Here's how it looked when it arrived:
Wind in the Willows 005

Wind in the Willows 006-1
How cute is this tissue paper? I already love getting packages in the mail, but having something arrive so delightfully wrapped was just magical.
Wind in the Willows 025
Thank you, Becky, for being awesome. (And for using an ink that matches my nail polish)

And what was inside?
Wind in the Willows 009
The Wind in the Willows! What else?!
Wind in the Willows 015
I already have quite a few copies of the book, but this one is a short, illustrated children's book that simply foll0ws the first chapter. I've been considering getting a half-sleeve tattoo with something Wind-in-the-Willows-y, and these illustrations are just absolutely perfect.
Wind in the Willows 018-1
Rat is so cute in his little beatnik 60's sweater! He's also my favorite character, just fyi.
Wind in the Willows 019-1

Wind in the Willows 023-1
Along a similar vein, I've begun a journey to collect as many versions of this book as possible. And once I get some free time, I'm going to create a tab on here to catalog the ones I've found. If you haven't yet read it, you really need to get on it. I'll leave you with what A.A. Milne has to say about it, and that, my dear friend, will be that.

"One does not argue about The Wind in the Willows. The young man gives it to the girl with whom he is in love, and if she does not like it, asks her to return his letters. The elder man tries it on his nephew, and alters his will accordingly. The book is a test of character. We can't criticize it, because it is criticizing us. As I wrote once: It is a Household Book; a book which everybody in the household loves, and quotes continually; a book which is read aloud to every new guest and is regarded as the touchstone of his worth. When you sit down to it, don't be so ridiculous as to suppose that you are sitting in judgment on my taste, or on the art of Kenneth Grahame. You are merely sitting in judgment on yourself. You may be worthy: I don't know. But it is you who are on trial."

Today I'm going to be a tease (3/3)

Third things third.

It's time to make the tough decisions about what books I'm going to bring with me on our cruise. This is the current miniature collection I have of books I mean to read soon. Although technically, the bottom tier is a French Language Tutorial on cd that I just put on my Ipod. I'll be fluent by the time we come home. (HA!)

I suppose it's more like a tower. I think I've narrowed it down to a few, but I still have some more editing to do, I think. Thankfully I finished Ridley Pearson's Kingdom Keepers last night, otherwise I would be in a further conundrum.

While on the floor taking pictures of my book tower, I rolled over onto my back. Here is what my room looks like from the floor:

Once I edit down my book list, I'll let you know what my final decision is.

It's a sad state of world affairs when these sell for so little. But a pretty good day for me, eh?

I also got a traveling bag for this spring that I'll post later. I'm not going to lie. It's going to make me look like an adult. An adult...who reads Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books. Oh yeah. I'm awesome.

Halloween Decorating Update

I have absolutely no idea what this story is about. It's from one of those super old Reader's Digest books I bought a few months ago.

So far, so good. Except I've been using Elmer's glue and didn't realize when I piled them up that some of the little tube-y guys would get stuck together. Woops. Oh well. No irreparable damage.

(See previous post for what I'm making)

Halloween Decoration Plans

So I was sitting around thinking about Halloween the other day... and I realized that I have got some serious fall decorating to do.

This is going to be first up on my list of Halloween decoration projects. I'm going to start snooping around thrift stores for the perfect book to use, as well as what I want to use for the centerpiece.

Hearty Hardy's

Bought: Hardy Boys Mystery Story: The Yellow Feather Mystery, by Franklin W. Dixon
Price: 75 cents (ish)
Place: Anna's Attic

If you've never read a Hardy Boys book, it's about time you get on that. There's really no reason not to read one (unless of course you like books you can't predict that have fully developed characters, unique plot lines, and intellectual dialogue. But really, who reads books like that anymore?)
Cannon Balls of Ice????? I really need to read this ASAP.

The real reason I bought this book is because it's an original 1953 copy.
Plus, I just love it (obviously more than Gary W. and Sharon Weitzner to whom it has previously belonged. Especially whichever one of them drew on it with pink marker.)
Please note the pink marker mark

Well, dear Hardy Boys, I love you for being eternally 17 and 18 years old, respectively.
I love you for solving every case with ease.
I love you for using phrases like "Holy crow!" and "Crumb!"
I love you for making fun of your fat friend Chet's weight without remorse.

We've come a long way together, haven't we?
Continue to take me on your adventures and I'll continue to love you forever.

Estate Sale, Pt. 2

Just singing my shoulda coulda woulda's.
If there were adequate space in my room, this sewing machine would now be mine.

Plus, were I not a cheapskate, this up-to-date informative reading material would also be in my possession. Because who really understands the elusive Hippie? Who couldn't use this book?

Bibliophile on the Brink of Bibliomania

Bought: 8 Reader's Digest books
Price: 50 cents a piece, equaling $4
Place: Concord Library

I have a real problem.
I can't control myself when it comes to buying books. Especially ones for decorative purposes, since there's no long-term commitment there.
My favorite part of Beauty and the Beast is when Belle gets full reign of the library and the curtains fly open revealing millions of books on perfectly constructed swirly staircases and bookshelves.

I am...a bibliophile.

I can't help it! They're just so unique! And they smell good! And they're CHEAP! It's really a disease...

Oh and I got this one because it has Jaws 2. I'm going to cut out the pictures of men scuba diving for the shark to use in some way in my room.

Here's an example of how I like to use my books (I'm thinking about shelves for this next batch?):

Creepy mask not included.
